$2B more to help the ongoing housing crisis in BC 🏡

Another day, another Westbank incident. Is it too much to ask for one of our top development companies to clean up their act?

$2B more to help the ongoing housing crisis in BC 🏡

Housing, especially affordable housing, still remains a huge topic in the general public consciousness in Canada. Nowhere is this felt more than in the streets of Vancouver as our real estate prices climb again to dizzying heights. Ranked as number 3 in the world for “most unaffordable places to live”, it seems like more and more of my friends are calling it quits and moving to Alberta or down south for better opportunities. Given this dire situation, we see a little bit of attention from the Federal government with their newest initiative to increase housing stock and affordability here in BC.

Tbh I was just going for the dog with the house on fire meme…

One worker dead in the string of Westbank’s Oakridge development misfortunes

Another unfortunate incident occurred yesterday on Westbank’s Oakridge development. A worker passed away after being struck by some formwork that was dropped by a crane on site. This follows the huge site fire from last summer and the news of EllisDon (the general contractor at Oakridge) initiating a lawsuit against Westbank (albeit for an unrelated project). This series of unfortunate events is much more than just the Oakridge and speaks a lot more about the current state of affairs that surround Westbank as a company. Between not paying the companies who build their buildings properly and the shoddy worksmanship and lack of concern for their own builds, I seriously don’t understand why people are still buying their projects.

There we go.

Lightning Round

  • Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain-computer interface company, has just successfully allowed the first human patient to control the mouse around the screen by thinking.

  • Air Canada loses court case after saying that its chatbot on the Air Canada website is “a separate legal entity that is responsible for its own actions”. Thank god they lost.
