Sam Altman of OpenAI seeks 2x United Kingdom GDP for more chips 🍪
The chip drought continues especially as the required compute to run large scale AI/ML operations keeps growing. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has apparently been in talks with investors (that includes the UAE government) to raise funds in the ballpark of $5-7 trillion to expand the current world semi-conductor industry to push out more chips. Investments into large scale chip manufacturing will also require sizeable capital allocations towards real estate and the construction of special facilities to house the equipment as well. Feeling bullish on construction.

“Engineer” is still a protected title … except for software engineers I guess?
In a court ruling against a People’s Party candidate who described himself as an “engineer” in his promotional materials, we again are reminded of the responsibility that the title can carry. Ultimately, misrepresentation and the abuse of the public’s trust is something that EGBC has every right to crack down on. However, computer engineering/software engineering still sits as the weird awkward middle child in the middle of all of this. I often joke that I might be the only software engineer who can legally call themselves an “engineer”. I wonder if EGBC will ever go after Amazon or those other giant international firms who still call their software developers engineers.
That’s Mr. Engineer to you
